Being the scapegoat

The Scientist :: More support for Butler. What if Dr. Butler was not an internationally renowned plague researcher? Would anyone care? What if he was a lowly technician or a grad student? Would anyone care? I'm sorry if I sound pessimistic, but if it was me, I don't even think that even my mentor will stand and support me. I'll be left as the scapegoat and left to rot in jail (literally). This whole ordeal saddens me.

Pity the NYAS itself is regarded by some as a questionable entity... it's an 'academy' where you simply pay and you are a member, so it is not well regarded by many in academe.
